Derek W. Dobson is Chief Executive Officer and Plan Manager at CAAT Pension Plan, and has more than 25 years of experience in the pension industry.
In addition to being the CEO of one of Canada’s best-performing pension plans, Derek serves as Co-Chair of the Canadian Public Pension Leadership Council (CPPLC) and sits on the Board of Directors of the Association of Canadian Pension Management (ACPM).
He is a frequent author and speaker on retirement income related topics. His article, “Can pension plans boost productivity,” was published in Canadian HR Reporter in October 2017. He has delivered talks at numerous conferences, such as the AllianzGi-Oxford University Pensions Conference, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) Canadian Employee Benefits Conference, the Pensions & Investments World Pension Summit, and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries Annual Meeting.
A recent webinar presenting Derek’s observations of the results of a CPPLC commissioned study, “Pensions Canadians want: The results of a national survey,” was the highest-attended ACPM webinar in its history. Savvy Investor ranked Derek’s research paper on which the webinar was based as one of the best pension papers in North America (2017).
Derek is an Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) with a degree in mathematics from the University of Waterloo.
