Biography

Sheryl Kennedy is CEO of Promontory Canada, an IBM Company, where she advises clients on a wide range of public policy, business strategy, finance restructuring, governance and risk management issues, and has over 28 years of experience in the federal public service.

She served as Deputy Governor of Financial Markets at Bank of Canada since July 2001 and Deputy Governor of Administration since October 1994. In her current capacity, she worked with domestic and international financial markets on matters related to monetary policy, financial stability and the development of capital markets at Bank of Canada. She oversaw the Bank of Canada’s fiscal agency role for the federal government. She served as a Member of the Bank of Canada’s Governing Council and Deputy Governor until November 2008.

She began her career in 1976 as an urban planner with the Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs. In 1980, she joined the federal public service. From 1984 to 1994, before joining Bank of Canada, she held various positions in the Department of Finance. She served at the Canadian Embassy in Paris, France as Finance Counsellor from 1990 to 1993. She is a Member of the Board of Trustees of SCO Health Services. Ms. Kennedy graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Waterloo in 1976. She has a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University and certificates in finance from the London School of Economics.
